My name is Heather. I'm in my junior year of undergraduate studies at a private university in Illinois. I'm majoring in Psychology, and I'll have my B.S. degree when I graduate in 2004. My school's tuition is expensive, roughly $20,000 a year. The only reason I can afford to attend this college is the academic scholarship I was awarded as an incoming freshman. It's renewed each term I earn a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
I'll be going to grad school in a year and a half to pursue my Psy.D., or Doctorate of Psychology. I plan to someday have my own practice and eventually write books linking psychology and Christianity. Because of my strong Christian beliefs, I want to attend Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. The graduate program for psychology, like all the other programs offered by Wheaton, is Christ-centered. Christ is not a focus, or even mentioned, in my undergraduate studies of psychology, so I definitely do not want to attend a secular university for grad school. I honestly believe one can only be healed psychologically through Christ, so I have to continue my education in an institution that wholeheartedly agrees with this principle.
Wheaton is a private college, which means it's more expensive than public state schools. But it's the only college that's close enough for me to commute to (living at home saves expenses!) AND has a Christ-centered approach to education. Wheaton is the school of my dreams; if any institution can help me become the psychologist I want to be, it's Wheaton. I estimate tuition and expenses for Wheaton will cost me about $25,000 to $30,000 a year, and it'll take me three or four years to get my Psy.D. That's somewhere between $75,000 to $90,000 that I'll have to come up with, which is much easier said than done.
Now, we've come to the reason I've set up this page: to beg for donations. I really believe Christian psychology is my calling; psychology is a field I adore, it'll help me change lives, and hopefully help individuals find Christ or repair their relationships with Him. I get great grades, I work hard, and I have a passion for academics, but I know money is what makes dreams possible. I ask, if you are able and you feel like helping me live out my dream, that you contribute to my graduate tuition fund. No donation is too small; every little bit counts. I've heard stories of people starting websites begging for donations to get themselves out of debt, which is how I got the idea to set up this site. Without meaning to be haughty, I think my pursuit of higher education is a more noble goal than paying off credit card debt, so I'm hoping I'll enjoy the same generosity those men and women received.
If you would like to make a contribution to my grad school tuition fund, you have a few options. If you'd like to pay via credit card, you can use PayPal.com to send me a payment. PayPal is a safe, secure way to make payments via credit card; it's the official payment partner of eBay.com. I am a verified member of PayPal. If you're not comfortable using your credit card to make a donation, please email me, and I'll send you my street address if you'd like to mail a contribution.
